Relying on a unique partnership between K-12 schools and the university, the Northwestern State University Writing Project (NSUWP) provides support, resources, and professional development for all teachers of writing. With the National Writing Project "teachers teaching teachers" model as its foundation, the NSUWP seeks to improve writing and learning in area schools and maximize student success through teacher-led programs that focus on research-based inquiry and reflective practice.

Our current professional development offerings include support for meeting the literacy expectations of the Common Core State Standards, examining what "college & career-ready" writing means, and exploring writing as a profession.

(We are a SRCL grant approved professional development provider)

NSUWP is currently taking applications for our 2013 Invitational Summer Institute

If you are an educator interested in being a part of NSUWP and all that it offers, or an administrator who would like more information about school district partnerships or workshop series, please contact us at or 318-357-5339.
